In the first of a series of programs, Lakes Regional Healthcare spoke to Rotary on Wednesday November 3. The new Physical Therapist was introduced, information about the upcoming 5K run was shared and a weight management program was discussed.

Brad Rohwer, the new physical therapist at Lakes Regional, is originally from Sutherland, IA, and comes to the lakes area from Ida Grove. In Ida Grove, Brad was instrumental in growing the physical therapy department there through education and up-to-date enhancements. He stated that the primary reasons for people seeing him are faulty posture, faulty mechanics and incorrect lifting. Another area he has intense experience in is with vertigo. He also shared a physical therapy guide with everyone in attendance.

Jennifer Gustafson then spoke about the upcoming Hold it for the Holidays 5K Fun Run/Walk to be held on November 20. It starts at the hospital and to register, go to www.allsportscentral.com.

Beth Samuelson, Dietician with LRH, said the challenge doesn't end with keeping your weight steady over the holidays, but keeping it down with the new year. LRH is offering a Weight Management Program seminar beginning January 4 and will run Tuesday evenings for 6 weeks. The focus of the sessions will be establishing a diet plan, supplement usage information, physical activity benefits, emotional eating and body image, sampling of healthy recipes and a plan for what to do after the seminars. This is the first in a series of programs given by Lakes Regional, which will be held the first Wednesday of each month throughout the next year at Rotary. Topics will introduce new personnel, inform about upcoming events, discuss healthcare issues and the industry and give healthy tips.
