Tracy Evans, Radiology Manager at Lakes Regional Healthcare, spoke to Iowa Great Lakes Rotary on Wednesday, February 2 about a new screen available at the hospital.

The New Arterial Life Saving Screen is a new service offered by Lakes Regional Healthcare. Its goal is to provide these screenings to detect risks for cardiovascular diseases as early as possible. The four screens included in this new service are: Stroke Screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screen, Peripheral Arterial Disease Screen, and Heart Attack Screen. All screens are done by ultrasound and have no radiation exposure.

This new service costs $50 and are generally not covered by Medicare general insurance. All four screenings take about 45 minutes to complete. Those who benefit from the sceenings are people with two or more of the following conditions: over 40 years old, more than 20 pounds overweight, family history of strokes, family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm, high cholesterol, cigarette smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, inactive lifestyle and heart disease.

A board certified radiologist will review all results and then results are sent with the patient within days. Results can then be shared by you with your physician.
