Ruth Ann Berkland and Elaina O’Neill with the Okoboji Summer Theatre spoke to the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary on July 20. Elaina graduated last May and performed at OST last summer and is back this summer as a graduate student and Director of Public Relations for the season. She shared information about the four shows that remain for the season: (1) “Shooting Stars” about a 1960s all women basketball team, (2) “The Ladies Man” a French farce, (3) “The Glass Menagerie” a classic which is bringin back well known alumni, and (4) “Evita” a musical with a guest director. The Theatre also has two children’s shows left at the Boji Bantum Theatre – (1) “Circus Olympics” which combines Greek mythology and circus acrobats, and (2) Queenie Bee’s Pajama Lama Beach Party” written by a Stephens College student. Ruth Ann shared a little about the history of OST and is in her 13th season here. This is the 54th season of the Summer Theatre and is looking forward to a 55th Anniversary celebration next year. Stephens College is committed to the ongoing program and recently announced a new dormitory project is in the works. The original dorms were built in 1958 as non-permanent residences, which currently house 43 people a summer.
