Tom Wiley spoke about S.T.E.M.M. to the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary club at noon on Wednesday, March 11. Tom shared stories and a video about his trips to Tanzania with the group.

The Siouxland Tanzania Educational Medical Ministry (STEMM) was founded in 1997 by Dr. Steve Meyer with the assistance of his wife Dana, Pastor John Gerdts, Michael Boose, and Tanzanian Lazaro Nylandu. From the onset STEMM has operated under of the motivation of Christ's words in Matthew 25, "for as you have done it unto the least of these my brethern ye have done it unto me." STEMM operates under the motivation of the mission statement: "To change lives for Christ through compassionate care."

In other words, STEMM aims to change lives in both Tanzania and in America by witnessing Jesus' love through acts of compassion to the children of Tanzania. This compassionate care takes many forms, providing education, healthcare, spiritual guidance and basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter for impoverished children. With God's help, our vision and ultimate goal is to change the country of Tanzania into a vibrant Christian community. While this seems an awfully big goal, we know what a big God we have!

Tom shared updates on the latest orphanage and bridge project, as well as photos from a safari they took during the trip. The club looks forward to hearing more in the future from fellow Rotary club member Aileen Schacherer who also travelled with the group this winter.
