Alan Blum, Chairman of Red Rock Wind Energy, spoke to Rotary on Wednesday, August 12 about the new community-owned wind farm project to go up in the near future in Dickinson and Emmet counties.

Red Rock Wind Energy is a community owned wind farm working with National Wind, a co-developer from Minneapolis. The plan is to build 300 megawatts or more located on 30,000+ acres in Dickinson and Emmet counties to supply power to 90,000 homes. This equates to approximately 200 turbines which most of the power would be shipped north and east.

Red Rock's objective is to provide wind-turbine-based energy that is sustainable, generational and environmentally-responsible. The project is designed to share financial benefits with area landowners and the surrounding community. Red Rock Wind Energy currently consists of thirteen founding investors located in Dickinson and Emmet counties.

Currently the project has secured contracts with 90 landowners for 19,000 of the acres needed. For more information about the project, visit the website at www.RedRockWind.com.
