Cari grew up in Victor, Iowa which is 30 miles east of Grimes, graduated high school there and then went to Waldorf College in Forest City where she got her degree in Communications. She is currently the Communications Administrator at the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
Following college, Cari followed her husband, Brian, to various churches until he became the Associate Pastor at First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa. They have 2 children, Blair 11, and Judah 8, both in the Okoboji school system.
Cari's interests include reading, concerts, performing arts, baking, and watching cooking shows.
