Rotary District 5970 Governor Jim Patton spoke to Iowa Great Lakes Rotary on Wednesday, August 24 at the regular noon meeting. DG Patton shared a variety of updates about Rotary International and District 5970 with the club, including membership goals, Polio Plus update, dictionary project, public image focus and ways to reach youth through RYLA camps. He also talked about the change in Rotary District Simplified Grants that will be happening next year. In the past all applications have gone to RI for administration. Moving forward, grant dollars will come back to the district for administration within the district. He also discussed the changes in the Group Study Exchange (GSE) program. Beginning in 2013, it will become a vocational study exchange and will likely include 2 Rotarians and 3 non-Rotarians each year in a specific profession.
