Father Carl Mann and Mike Meers spoke to Rotary at the regular noon meeting May 20 on their project of delivering and demonstrating water purification systems to Swaziland.

St. Alban's Parish in Spirit Lake sent a delegation of 18 with a clean water message to Swaziland in southeast Africa. This water of hope mission delivered 35 portable water chlorination systems, each valued at $350, to an area in need of quality drinking water. Twenty percent of the world has unsafe drinking water and life expectancies in those areas are grim. In Swaziland, the average life expectancy of its 1.1 million people is 38 years. Over 70,000 children are orphaned by HIV/AIDS and most become head of their household by age eleven. By 2010, there will be 120,000 orphans in Swaziland.

Carol and Mike shared stories and photos and also that their group took along a dentist and nutritionist on their mission as well.
