Okoboji School administration attended Rotary and shared how the school has implemented Character Counts into its daily routine at the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary noon meeting on Wednesday, September 8.

Superintendent Bob Miller, High School Principal Brian Downing and Elementary School Principal Rob Olson shared how students in each of their buildings participate in Character Counts, a national character program. In 2007, Okoboji School District was named the first school district of character in the state of Iowa. And in 2008, Dickinson County was named the first county of character in the state of Iowa.

The six pillars of character that the Okoboji school focus on in daily activities are Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Activities the school has used to put an emphasis on character are monthly character assemblies, recognition lunches with the principal and character merits.
