Val Newhouse, President of Iowa Lakes Community College, shared an update with Iowa Great Lakes Rotary on Wednesday, January 18. Val is not only the first woman president of ILCC but also the first president promoted from within the college. ILCC was established in 1966 through the 15 community college system in Iowa. Over the years, enrollment has treaded up with over 100,000 students in the system statewide. ILCC  has students enrolled in over 100 technical and pre-professional programs. 68% of students are from the local five county area; 85% from Iowa; 7% from Minnesota and 8% made up from 31 states, 1 U.S. territory and 6 foreign countries. ILCC has a great retention rate, with a 51.4% graduation rate for 1st time, full time students (statewide rate is 35.8%). Many students completed prerequisite classes and transfer on to larger state universities to complete their degrees. Over 150 scholarships are available at ILCC and 65% of applicants are awarded at least one. Val also shared two new advertising commercials that will begin airing soon.
