Mary Freiborg, President of the Okoboji Foundation, and Hannah Marsh, member of Youth in Philanthropy shared their stories about the program with the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary club on Wednesday, March 7. Mary is proud to work with 14 Community Leaders on the Board of Directors and over 350 donor members who make a vital difference in the lakes community through the Okoboji Foundation. The Youth in Philanthropy program began last year. The goal is to teach the Next Generation about the importance of community giving and the lasting impact of Okoboji Foundation Grants in the Community. Hannah shared the process for becoming part of Youth in Philantrophy as well as what she has learned about the community and organizations who rely on grants each year. 27 students from Okoboji & Spirit Lake High Schools participate in the Okoboji Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy. Youth in Philanthropy empowers and challenges youth to identify community needs and build a sense of social responsibility.  It teaches the next generation about the importance of community giving.
